Gym Leader Interview
SPLI: It’s that time again! SPLI members want to know about the Electric Gym! What made you want to be the Electric Gym Leader?
Azelfin: I chose Electric because I have always been a fan of Raichu. Also I think that Jolteon is hands down the coolest Electric Pokémon ever made from Gen 1.
SPLI: Those are definitely some great Pokémon! But what about your Gym rules and format?
Azelfin: I like to keep things simple… I play with Normal/Single because I think doubles, triples, and rotation battles are too confusing. And Normal because in case they have level 50 or below Pokémon, it raises them to level 50.
SPLI: That’s true, those rules keep the battle fair for even a new Pokémon player! Now, we had to ask… do you mind sharing any hints or tips about the Electric Gym?
Azelfin: I wouldn’t give all my secrets away… but lets just say you don’t want the rain to last the whole game! 😛
SPLI: And finally, which game are you currently playing right now? Pokémon X/Y or Pokémon OR/AS?
Shellshock: I prefer OR/AS because it has 2 day care centers and new and strong megas. Plus move tutors YAY!
SPLI: Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us! Challengers will be SHOCKED when they battle the Electric Gym!
If you would like to challenge Azelfin, please visit the Electric Gym page and fill out the challenge form! While you wait for your challenge to be accepted, you can also scan Azelfin’s Secret Base QR code, which has a small preview of his Psychic Gym team!
Once the new venue was established in Somerset, NJ we headed down to prepare for a new plan: The Amiibo Only Tournament Double-Header! We held two tournaments on Saturday, and we had a really great turnout! Registration was open during the morning for the first tournament, which was held in Double Elimination format and started at 12:30pm. This exciting tournament lasted for over two hours, and lots of people came to spectate and see how their Amiibo competed against the others. The second SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament was held in the late afternoon, starting at 4:45pm. The second tournament had more entrants, so we held this tournament in Single Elimination format.
Our table also had lots of goodies for Nintendo fans! We had posters for Codename: S.T.E.A.M. (demo available now on the eShop!), AC:NL Flower Guides, Pokemon ORAS demo cards, and flyers for the SPLI Pokémon League. Of course, most people were there to check out the Duck Hunt freeplay using the Wii Zapper, and to sign up for the SPLI Amiibo Only Tournaments! Top score of Duck Hunt was 175,000, achieved by Stephen of TheArmedGamer.com at Level 11!

The best part of the event was getting to see all of the cool custom Amiibo paint jobs that competitors were submitting in the tournament. We were blown away by the talent and creativity that we saw in these custom Amiibos! It was also interesting to see which Amiibos were more popular, and which training techniques were the most successful in Amiibo battles. One of the most useful Amiibo abilities that we noticed was the Perfect Exploding Shield. When used correctly, a shield can blow up and launch an opponent while your Amiibo protects itself!
Everyone was having a great time checking out the tournament. We were really surprised that so many people stayed to watch the outcome of the tournament, and there was a lot of hype! (We even noticed a couple of side bets going on among the spectators!) The winners of the tournaments were rewarded with a rare Amiibo figure to take home, so we want to congratulate the winners of the SPLI Amiibo Tournament Double Header at Apex 2015!
First Tournament Winner: Gerard and Villager
Second Tournament Winner: Mike and Marth
Now we’re all very excited to start training our Amiibos even harder, because SPLI is planning to host another Amiibo Only Tournament on Long Island later this year! While we wait for details to be finalized, please consider joining us at our next event, Majora’s Mask Archery on February 19th from 8pm – 10pm!
Thanks to everyone who came down and joined us at the SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament at Apex 2015. We really had a blast and it was great to make some new friends and spread the word about SPLI. See you at the next event!

Gym Leader Interview
SPLI: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about your Gym! There are lots of really interesting Psychic type Pokémon, so we were wondering which Pokémon on your team is your personal favorite?
Shellshock: Malamar, because of its Contrary Ability.
SPLI: Which Pokémon game do you prefer, Pokémon X/Y or Pokémon OR/AS?
Shellshock: OR/AS, because it gives me access to Move Tutor Moves, ability to let me soar anywhere I want, being able to use two different Bikes at once, and many others.
SPLI: Have you ever played the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG)?
Shellshock: I used to play the TCG, both Casually and Competitively, until 2011.
SPLI: Wow so you are a really active gamer! Are you working on any other projects right now?
SPLI: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us! We wish you luck with your future Psychic Gym challenges!
If you would like to challenge Shellshock, please visit the Psychic Gym page and fill out the challenge form! While you wait for your challenge to be accepted, you can also scan Shellshock’s Secret Base QR code, which has a small preview of his Psychic Gym team!
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the results of the 2014 SPLI AWARDS! Once again, our favorite games presented in fun infographic format. Please note that some categories had so many voting options that they could not all be included in the results. Thank you to everyone who voted last year. Enjoy!

Gym Leader Interview
SPLI: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about your Gym! First of all, we were wondering why you chose the Normal Type for your Gym?
Derrick: I feel Normal Types are the underdogs of the world.
SPLI: Your Gym uses Flat Rules and Singles Format. What made you decide to use these rules?
Derrick: Nothing beats 6 v 6. I think there aren’t too many rooms for tricks, and a lengthy set up can be your downfall.
SPLI: We know it’s hard to choose one, but which Pokémon on your team is your favorite?
Derrick: Stoutland!!! I think he is one of the most underrated Normal Type there is!
SPLI: Many SPLI members are enjoying Pokémon OR/AS these days, but some are still playing Pokémon X/Y. Which Pokémon game for the Nintendo 3DS do you prefer?
Derrick: I am mainly playing on ORAS because of the new VGC rules, but I am going to have to say X/Y for the mere fact of character customization. I felt unique going into battle.
SPLI: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us! We wish you luck with your future Normal Gym challenges!
If you would like to challenge Derrick, please visit the Normal Gym page and fill out the challenge form!

It’s time for the third annual SPLI Awards! For the past two years we’ve asked our members about their favorite Nintendo games and SPLI events, and this year is no different! The Voting Phase of the 2014 SPLI Awards is currently underway!
If you want to voice your opinions on the latest Nintendo games then be sure to submit your vote before Monday 12/22/14! Please click here to cast your vote in the 2014 SPLI Awards. Thanks for participating, and look forward to the results infographic coming in January 2015!
One thing we wanted to upgrade this year are the targets. We want to really test the skills of our members, so we incorporated an actual archery target into each of the Hyrule Warriors Enemy and Villain targets, making scoring a little easier and the skill level a little harder! This is the SECOND quest, after all!
Today we are releasing a teaser target – Wizzro. This is just one of the options that will be available to shoot at the Legend of Zelda Archery Competition – Second Quest! We will be printing these out and everyone will be able to take home their target at the end of the night! The three highest scores will also receive a small Perler bead prize!
And of course, we will also we doing a trick shot with an eShop giftcard as a prize. But this will be no ordinary trick shot – this year we’ll have you going totally cuckoo for Cuccoo’s!
Be sure to RSVP today and reserve your spot in the Legend of Zelda Archery Competition – Second Quest! If you’re as excited about it as we are, tell your friends and use the hashtag #ZeldaArchery if you post about it on Twitter! See everyone on 11/19/14!
Last November, StreetPass Long Island hosted the first Legend of Zelda Archery Competition event in Queens, NY. The event was so popular, everyone asked if we could do it again… so now we are proud to announce the Legend of Zelda Archery Competition – Second Quest! This year, we are going to learn to shoot the long bow at C&B Archery in Hicksville, NY. LoZ Cosplay is encouraged, so wear your best Link or Zelda costume and we’ll take some awesome group photos!
