SPLI at AONGaming!

How long have you been a member of SPLI? We’ve been around for 4 years now (crazy how time flies!!) and those of you who were with us from the beginning will remember we used to host events at a venue called Empire Gaming. While we loved it very much, unfortunately the venue closed down a few years ago and we’ve been searching high and low for a new home base!

Recently, a new gaming store has opened up in Deer Park called AONGaming, and here at SPLI we are pretty psyched about it! Not only does this venue specialize in Smash Bros tournaments (pretty much all gens, by the way!), but they are welcoming SPLI to host events at their store! (RSVP to our event here!)

We’re going to take them up on this generous offer starting Saturday, October 1st! Join us starting at 4pm and bring your 3DS, because we’re hosting a casual Multi-player Meetup! There’s even a chill out spot for people who aren’t participating in AON’s ongoing tournaments.

What You Missed: Eon Ticket StreetPass Day!

Here at SPLI, we hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with friends, family and StreetPasses! To celebrate National StreetPass weekend and share the exclusive Eon Ticket DLC for Pokemon ORAS, SPLI organized a little meetup at McDonald’s in New Hyde Park on 11/30.

We had a great turnout, with many new faces joining us to get StreetPasses and Eon Tickets for their Pokemon games. Many SPLI members were excited about the location because this event was held at the “McMansion”, which is the fanciest McDonald’s on Long Island! We were permitted to use the private upstairs area for the event, and it was awesome despite being intended for kids birthday parties. Some members traveled from as far as NYC and Suffolk County to attend the event!

We battled Pokemon, sought out Super Secret Bases, some members even “Settled it in Smash”, and of course we splurged on greasy french fries! It was a lot of fun and we are so THANKFUL (get it?) to have enjoyed a SPLI event with so many enthusiastic members during National StreetPass Weekend! Thanks to everyone who joined us for Eon Ticket StreetPass Day!

Nintendo 3DS is 3 Years Old!

February 26, 2014 was the third birthday of the Nintendo 3DS! To celebrate, we’d like to share a blog entry from SPLI Twitter Manager Lance’s blog “Royal Lance Gaming.” He was the third person in the whole country to buy a 3DS system back in 2011!

Nintendo 3DS Launch

Posted by Royal Lance on March 31, 2011

This weekend I was at my first midnight at Best Buy Union Square for the Nintendo 3DS. Not only did I get to buy a 3DS, I was the third official buyer for that system in America right before Triforce and EMP Kreumore. And the best part was I got to chill (literally) with two Smash-playing philanthropists, a coat wearing Samus, some guy wearing a bunch of Nintendo stuff, and Kreymore.

The launch and the week that led to it was quite an experience especially the night when it snowed like crazy. I met interesting new people who faced the cold for the innovative portable. I met a mom who got in line with a pair a crutches to she could get the 3DS for her daughter. Then we have a guy who came from Jersey carrying NOTHING. (He did grab stuff throughout the day.)

The launch party was quite big. Not only did it cover Best Buy, but it took over some of the park across the street. Street team was there to demo the 3DS games but I already had my mind made up about what I wanted to get. But I did enjoy making a Mii from a photo of me. That was a neat trick. It was also nice to see staff bring in some free food and music.

In the closing minutes Reggie Fils-Aime stepped out to address the crowd. Asking the crowd to throw away the 3D glasses was a nice touch. I couldn’t help but to put then on for a bit.

After a 36 hour wait (yes, I waited that long) I was finally able to follow Triforce and Kreymore into the store. When I got off the escalator the 3DS’s were all lined up on a counter instead of locked up the back room. I picked up an Aqua 3DS with two games. Third place doesn’t get as much media attention as first but it still means a lot to me personally.

Thanks:

To TriForce, for letting me take shifts in holding our spots on line between my work hours.

To Kreymore, for braving that icy night…so I didn’t have to.

To Zero Suit Samus, for willing to pose for pictures in spite of the insane cold.

To Wes and Kubuu, for jacking my chair for a place to put their SOS Gamers sign.

To Reggie, for not calling security on me when I greeted him.

To Best Buy Union Square, for being such good sports overall (but you guys were stingy with the bathrooms).

What You Missed: Wasabi’s Obon Festival

This event recap originally appeared on The Glux Blog.

On August 15th, Mayor Neko was very excited. It was time for the Obon Festival!

A special WIFI Meet Up Event was organized by StreetPass Long Island to invite American players to visit the Japanese town of Wasabi, so that they could partake in the unique festivities of this Japan-exclusive holiday!

Mayor Gluxie of Jubilife City came by to find out the details of this event [in English].

Isabelle was more than happy to explain what the Obon Festival was all about!

Isabelle was handing out free gifts. There were two options that were handed out, either the Eggplant Cow or the Cucumber Horse.

She must have seen me giving her a weird look, so she explained that it’s more of a “kids thing” to play with an Eggplant Cow…

Mayor Neko opened the gates of Wasabi to visitors. At first we had a bit of a connection issue, due to so many people trying to enter the town at once!

Isabelle and Mayor Neko kept their spirits up despite the disconnection frustrations by dancing together at the Town Plaza!

Here’s a shot of the Face-Cutout Standee that was provided by Isabelle for the Obon Festival. You can see an Eggplant Cow and Cucumber Horse!

Ultimately visitors were only able to enter one at a time, to ensure we wouldn’t get more disconnects. Sorry for the confusion!

Wasabi was even visited by royalty! Even a King needs an Eggplant Cow!

Guests enjoyed posing in the Face-Cutout Standee. It was so cute!

For future Japanese events, it seems likely that the “one at a time” rule will have to be used, only to keep things a little more regulated. Everyone is just too excited and tries to enter the town at the same time, causing the internet to derp and disconnections happen continuously. We will be sure to post this as a warning for all future Japanese events. (And there are plenty of them, so if you missed this event, be sure to “like” StreetPass Long Island so you can stay informed of all ACNL JP Events!)

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses Concert

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses concert was held at the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

In conclusion, here is some videos we recorded at the concert.  Sorry for the shaky/blurry footage, but it’s really just about the music right?  The audio isn’t really fantastic either… guess you’ll just have to go see the Symphony for yourself to get the full experience!  🙂

This music is from the Spirit Tracks segment of the Symphony.

This music is from the Wind Waker segment of the Symphony.

We hope you enjoyed our E3 Coverage!
