Holiday Party Tournament Rules

The SPLI Holiday Party is SUNDAY 12/18 starting at 4PM at AON Gaming! (RSVP here if you haven’t already!)

We’ve announced a lot of fun activities, including TWO Tournaments! Now is the time to share the format and rules for the tournaments, so read on for all the details!

Amiibo Only Tournament

Ever since Amiibo figures hit store shelves, SPLI has been one of the few groups on Long Island to run “Amiibo Only Tournaments.” Since it’s been a few months since our last tournament, we decided to bring it back for the Holiday Party!

Amiibo Only Tournament Holiday Party Ruleset:

  • Level 50 Amiibo recommended
  • Doubles format: teams of 2 amiibo vs. 2 amiibo
  • 3 Stock
  • 5 min time limit
  • Stages: Battlefield or Miiverse (competitors decide on omega)
  • Tournament format based on number of participants
  • 1st Place Prize: Musical Master Sword Amiibo Stand

Don’t have 2 amiibos to battle with? No worries – SPLI will provide ‘rental’ amiibo that you can borrow, while supplies last.

Pokémon Sun and Moon Tournament

The latest installments in the Pokémon series are Sun and Moon, and the games introduce a new battle style: The Battle Royal! We thought it would be fun to try out this new format for the Holiday Party! If you need some tips on this new battle format, check out this guide!

Battle Royal Holiday Party Ruleset:

  • Pokémon Sun/Moon required
  • Level 50 Pokémon recommended
  • Special Pokémon: Banned
  • Tournament format based on number of participants
  • 1st Place Prize: Eevee Knit Beanie

If you have any questions about the rulesets, please feel free to contact us! Remember, while tournament participation is encouraged, it’s definitely not required. All we want is for everyone to have a great time and collect StreetPass tags!

Amiibo Only Tournament at LI Retro Gaming EXPO!

If you haven’t purchased a ticket yet, stop delaying! This summer’s hottest retro gaming event is coming to Hauppauge, NY on August 13th and SPLI is going to be there hosting an Amiibo Only Tournament!

Visit the official website of the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo to buy tickets, learn more about the event and see a list of vendors that will be participating. This event is amazing for retro gamers and collectors alike, with a show floor filled with retro games to purchase, as well as various retro gaming tournaments to show that you still have the skills after all these years!

Of course, SPLI is a little more about current gen gaming, so be sure to bring your Nintendo 3DS and an Amiibo to the event too! We’re going back to basics with our Amiibo Only Tournament, since we have a really cool GRAND PRIZE to give to the winner! The 1st place winner will receive a trophy and a Legend of Zelda lithograph!

Tournament Rules:

  • Level 50 Amiibo Recommended
  • One (1) Amiibo per Entrant
  • Custom Moves & Stats are LEGAL
  • 2 Stock – 6 Minute Time Limit
  • Stage: Small Battlefield
  • No Items
  • Single/Double Elimination format depending on number of participants

Entrants must stay in the tournament area while their Amiibo fights in the tournament. If an entrant is not present for their matchup, they will be disqualified. SPLI is not responsible for lost or mixed up Amiibo figures.

We will have an official start time soon, so stay tuned for more details! To be sure that you don’t miss any important information, please RSVP to our event page for the expo!

Just for fun, here’s a little video made by a local production company with some fun ‘man on the street’ interviews from last year’s Long Island Retro Gaming Expo!

What You Missed: SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament (May)

Mother’s Day meant a lot of Amiibo fun for those who came out to the SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament (May) event at A Store of Fire and Dice in Lynbrook, NY on 5/10. We held an Amiibo Doubles tournament and it was a lot of fun!

Much to her delight, SPLI Co-Founder Debbie ended up winning the Tournament with her King Koopa and Zeruda pairing. (They were undefeated for the day!) But since SPLI admins can’t win a tournament, the prize was awarded to the runner-up David with his Bowser and Link Amiibo. They performed well and should be commended!

We’ll post the highlight videos from the stream soon I promise! Plus stay tuned for a major announcement about the future of the SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament!

What You Missed: SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament (April)

Last Sunday was the monthly SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament (April) and we decided to switch things up a bit by changing to Doubles format. Everyone really liked the new ruleset so we’ll stick with it for now! If you weren’t able to attend the event, you can always check out the replay on the SPLI Twitch Channel! We always try to stream our events live, so check our Twitch if you can’t make it to an Amiibo Only Tournament, and be sure to follow us so you don’t miss an update! 🙂

Big congrats to Draven who won the April Tournament with his Lucario and Sonic team. He took home a Mega Man amiibo as a prize! Want to be the next big winner? Join in at our next Amiibo Only Tournament on 5/10 starting at 2pm!

Amiibo Only Tournament (April) Update

Who’s excited for the next SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament? We’ll be meeting up at Gamehut in Babylon, NY on Sunday 5/26 from 5pm – 8pm to test the skills of our beloved Amiibo figures!

We wanted to change it up a little bit for this tournament, so we’ve decided to try a Doubles format for this Tournament. This will change the rules slightly so here’s the update:

  • Doubles Format
    • 2 vs. 2 – Amiibo’s Only! You cannot pair up humans with Amiibos. We are strictly Amiibo’s Only in this Tournament.
  • Doubles Pairings Options
    • One person with 2 Amiibo figures
    • Two people with 1 Amiibo figure each
    • One person with 1 Amiibo and 1 Rental Amiibo (supplied by SPLI)
    • PLEASE NOTE: There is only one prize, so if you are pairing up with a friend and their Amiibo, you would have to share the prize (you can work that out amongst yourselves right?) If you win and you had a SPLI Rental Amiibo on your team, you can keep the prize.
  • Smash Battle Format
    • 3 Stock
    • 8 Minutes
    • Small Battlefield
    • No Items (unless equipped due to a Custom Ability)
    • Custom Moves & Stats are LEGAL
    • 2 Amiibos Max per Entrant
  • Registration Open 5pm – 6pm
  • Level 50 Amiibo Recommended
  • Double/Single Elimination depending on number of participants

What You Missed: SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament (March)

Last night, SPLI hosted our latest Amiibo Only Tournament at Game Hut in Babylon, NY.  There were many upsets, and Weegee didn’t make it to the finals! (Phew!) However, we did see Sean S. take home the top prize once again with his Mario Amiibo “SMPS”!

Next month we will be changing the format for the Amiibo Only Tournament, in an effort to switch things up and give others a chance to win. Stay tuned for more info! Until then, take a look at some photos from our March Tournament.
