Pokemon X&Y Event: 2/23

Do you want to be the very best, like no one ever was?? Then come prove your Pokemon prowess at StreetPass Long Island’s Pokemon X&Y Event at Empire Gaming in Farmingdale, NY.  The event will start at 12pm on Sunday, 2/23! RSVP on Facebook now!

  • Pokemon X&Y Tournament: Prepare yourself for the upcoming official PVGC tournaments by battling your fellow SPLI members!  We will be using the official tournament rules set forth by The Pokemon Company: Doubles Standard Format. Please remember that all Pokemon entered in this tournament must be Kalos Native (meaning it must be a Pokemon that was hatched or caught in the Kalos region. You can tell if your Pokemon is Kalos Native if there is a blue pentagon on their Pokemon details screen.) but they can be from the National Pokedex. The winner of the tournament will win a shiny competitive-ready (perfect IV’s, ability, nature, etc.) in-game Pokemon and a perler bead Pokemon prize! As usual, the final round will be broadcast on our big display monitor for everyone to see!
Note the blue pentagon under Chespin, next to the marker symbols.
  • Pokemon X&Y PR Video Contest:  Have you created the coolest Pokemon X&Y PR Video for your trainer character? We will be hosting a PR Video Contest and whoever has the best video will win a great prize! Show off your style, video editing, favorite Pokemon, or whatever you want! All videos will be broadcast on our big screen display monitor for all attendees to see, and we will vote by applause to determine the winner.
  • Pokemon Rumble U Freeplay:  Throughout the event, we will be hosting Pokemon Rumble U on the Wii U for SPLI members to play. Bring down your Pokemon NFC figures to trade with other members too! StreetPass Long Island even has some NFC’s to give away during the event, so you won’t want to miss it!
  • Pokedex 3D Pro Quizzes:  For those who want to show off their Pokemon knowledge, we will switch back and forth from Rumble U to Pokedex 3D Pro, and offer prizes for the winners! We have some great prizes thanks to donations from SPLI members.
  • Pokemon TCG fans are welcome to bring their decks and battle each other! Note: Since SPLI is exclusively a Nintendo video-game based group, we aren’t hosting an official TCG tournament, but Empire Gaming manager Joe has all of the info for upcoming TCG League games! You can also pick up new X&Y TCG packs at Empire Gaming!

This means that only two visitors will be able to enter at a time, since the streaming 3DS will be in Wasabi Village continuously throughout the event. Please use the chat room on the Twitch TV feed to coordinate on when to enter Wasabi Village. Please be patient, as there will be many people trying to enter at the same time and we don’t want to have disconnection and game crashing issues. Please also be considerate of others and keep your visit brief so that others can have their turn.  Thank you!

About Setsubun

From Wikipedia: Setsubun (節分?, Bean-Throwing Festival or Bean-Throwing Ceremony) is the day before the beginning of Spring in Japan.[1][2] The name literally means “seasonal division”, but usually the term refers to the Spring Setsubun, properly called Risshun (立春) celebrated yearly on February 3 as part of the Spring Festival (春祭haru matsuri?). In its association with the Lunar New Year, Spring Setsubun can be and was previously thought of as a sort of New Year’s Eve, and so was accompanied by a special ritual to cleanse away all the evil of the former year and drive away disease-bringing evil spirits for the year to come. This special ritual is called mamemaki (豆撒き?) (literally “bean throwing”). Setsubun has its origins in tsuina (追儺?), a Chinese custom introduced to Japan in the eighth century.[2]

In Animal Crossing New Leaf, visitors must go to the Town Plaza to receive their free Red or Blue Ogre Mask from Isabelle. If you put the mask on your character and talk to the town residents, they might just give you a surprising reaction!

THE 2013 SPLI AWARDS!

Happy New Year from StreetPass Long Island! It’s time for the results of the 2013 SPLI AWARDS!

During the month of December, SPLI members filled out a survey to cast their votes for their favorite Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games.  Here are the best games of 2013, according to StreetPass Long Island members:

2013SPLI-AWARDS

StreetPass Long Island was thrilled by the number of votes received in the Second Annual SPLI AWARDS event. We had more than three times the responses in 2013’s voting phase than in 2012. If you participated by voting in the 2013 SPLI AWARDS, thank you very much for taking the time to give us your insight on the best games of the year. If you’d like to participate in more SPLI surveys in the future, please sign up for our email mailing list!
