Accepting Challenges: Monday to Thursday 9PM – 2AM

Gym Leader Interview

SPLI: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about your Gym! There are lots of really interesting Psychic type Pokémon, so we were wondering which Pokémon on your team is your personal favorite?

Shellshock: Malamar, because of its Contrary Ability.

SPLI: Which Pokémon game do you prefer, Pokémon X/Y or Pokémon OR/AS?

Shellshock: OR/AS, because it gives me access to Move Tutor Moves, ability to let me soar anywhere I want, being able to use two different Bikes at once, and many others.

SPLI: Have you ever played the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG)?

Shellshock: I used to play the TCG, both Casually and Competitively, until 2011.

SPLI: Wow so you are a really active gamer! Are you working on any other projects right now?

Shellshock: I am one of the Admins of StreetPass NYC. I also do some Live Streams of games, which you could follow me here (http://twitch.tv/shellshockprime) and here (http://hitbox.tv/shellshockprime).

SPLI: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us! We wish you luck with your future Psychic Gym challenges!

If you would like to challenge Shellshock, please visit the Psychic Gym page and fill out the challenge form! While you wait for your challenge to be accepted, you can also scan Shellshock’s Secret Base QR code, which has a small preview of his Psychic Gym team!

Gym Leader: Derrick

Battle Format: Singles – Flat Rules

Accepting Challenges: Everyday from 7PM – 12AM, and Weekdays from 8AM to 12PM

Gym Leader Interview

SPLI: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions about your Gym! First of all, we were wondering why you chose the Normal Type for your Gym?

Derrick: I feel Normal Types are the underdogs of the world.

SPLI: Your Gym uses Flat Rules and Singles Format. What made you decide to use these rules?

Derrick: Nothing beats 6 v 6. I think there aren’t too many rooms for tricks, and a lengthy set up can be your downfall.

SPLI: We know it’s hard to choose one, but which Pokémon on your team is your favorite?

Derrick: Stoutland!!! I think he is one of the most underrated Normal Type there is!

SPLI: Many SPLI members are enjoying Pokémon OR/AS these days, but some are still playing Pokémon X/Y. Which Pokémon game for the Nintendo 3DS do you prefer?

Derrick: I am mainly playing on ORAS because of the new VGC rules, but I am going to have to say X/Y for the mere fact of character customization. I felt unique going into battle.

SPLI: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us! We wish you luck with your future Normal Gym challenges!

If you would like to challenge Derrick, please visit the Normal Gym page and fill out the challenge form!

National StreetPass Weekend!

National StreetPass Weekend

Nintendo is kicking off the Thanksgiving Weekend early by spreading the word that this weekend is officially a National StreetPass Weekend! Starting today, if you visit any local Nintendo Zone (which can be found at various retail and fast food locations such as Best Buy, McDonald’s and Starbucks, ask your local store and see if they have it!) you can get a StreetPass from someone from out of state or even another country! During National StreetPass Weekend, the StreetPass relays from Nintendo Zone get shuffled around and everyone gets a TON of StreetPasses! This will help everyone to complete all of these new Puzzle Swap puzzle panels that were recently released for Pikmin 3, Sonic Boom and Ultimate NES Remix! And if you’re a Pokemon fan, StreetPass is the ONLY way to receive the special Eon Ticket DLC, which unlocks a new island in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire!

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to participate in National StreetPass Weekend. If you’re in NYC, you can stop by Nintendo World Store and get a StreetPass there! Of course, you can also find StreetPass NYC members StreetPassing in the area, so the Eon Ticket DLC will probably be quite easy to find if you’re in the city this weekend!

Pokemon ORAS Eon Ticket

Long Islanders can also meetup with SPLI on Sunday, 11/30 for Eon Ticket StreetPass Day! We’re going to be at the lovely Townhouse McDonald’s in New Hyde Park from 4-6pm on Sunday and we will be distributing the Eon Ticket for anyone who joins us! We do ask that since we’re hosting this at McDonalds, if you plan to stay more than 15 minutes you must purchase some food. But if you want to quickly stop by just to get a StreetPass and then go on your way, that’s totally fine (and free) too!

We hope you all enjoy National StreetPass Weekend and have a Happy Thanksgiving as well!

New Targets for the Zelda Archery Event!

SPLI has been hard at work planning the upcoming Legend of Zelda Archery Competition – Second Quest! event coming up Wednesday, November 19th at 7:30 PM. (For pricing, location details and to RSVP, please visit the event page!)

One thing we wanted to upgrade this year are the targets. We want to really test the skills of our members, so we incorporated an actual archery target into each of the Hyrule Warriors Enemy and Villain targets, making scoring a little easier and the skill level a little harder! This is the SECOND quest, after all!

WizzroTargetToday we are releasing a teaser target – Wizzro. This is just one of the options that will be available to shoot at the Legend of Zelda Archery Competition – Second Quest! We will be printing these out and everyone will be able to take home their target at the end of the night! The three highest scores will also receive a small Perler bead prize!

And of course, we will also we doing a trick shot with an eShop giftcard as a prize. But this will be no ordinary trick shot – this year we’ll have you going totally cuckoo for Cuccoo’s!

Be sure to RSVP today and reserve your spot in the Legend of Zelda Archery Competition – Second Quest! If you’re as excited about it as we are, tell your friends and use the hashtag #ZeldaArchery if you post about it on Twitter! See everyone on 11/19/14!

What You Missed: Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament!

On Friday, 5/9/14, SPLI members were treated to a really fun event – the Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament! The event kicked off earlier in the week, when SPLI issued a challenge to members via an online Mario Golf Private Tournament, dubbed the “SPLI May Tourney.” SPLI staff announced that the winner of the online private tournament would have a chance to win a free t-shirt!

CYMERA_20140509_133536

The lucky winner of the SPLI May Tourney was Chris C! His impressive score of -14 was posted on the group page, and Chris was reminded that by winning the online tournament, he was entitled to a free t-shirt if he attended the Mario Golf Mini Golf meetup. Of course he came to claim his prize!

20140509_205230SPLI members split up into groups of 4 to play the Mini Golf Mountain course at Heartland Golf Park in Edgewood, NY. The competition was tight, with most players putting at par or better! The weather held out and we were able to golf through all 18 holes.

CYMERA_20140509_221152

The winners of the Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament were Chris C. (3rd place), Johnathan L. (2nd place) and Dan D. (1st place). Congratulations to all of the winners!

Editor’s Note – this makes Chris the winner of the online golf tournament AND a medalist in real life mini golf. Way to go, Chris!! Readers might remember that Dan was also the winner of our Pokemon X&Y Tournament back in February, making Dan the SPLI Pokemon and Mini Golf Champion! We plan to post a new Hall of Fame page here on the SPLI website to celebrate these winners and all future winners of SPLI competitions, so check back soon for that!

Another important detail to mention about the Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament is that this was SPLI’s first meetup to include an Official Nintendo Representative! The NoA Long Island Rep, Derek, came to cheer us on and he took this awesome group photo for us! Everyone was so excited when Derek started handing out all kinds of cool Nintendo giveaways, and we learned more details about awesome Nintendo demo events that are coming up soon! Thanks for joining us Derek!

To keep up with the golfing spirit, a new private online tournament challenge is now issued to all SPLI members! The next private tournament is a SPEED challenge of 9 holes. Don’t let all of the coins and powerups distract you, but get the best score you can! This tournament ends at 8:30pm on 5/25/14. Good luck!
