Dave & Busters Birthday Bash

Two years ago, SPLI held a birthday party event for a few Admins who all happen to have a birthday in April. Well… this year we decided to do it again! Unfortunately our favorite DnB (Farmingdale) closed a few weeks ago, so we will be hosting this event at the Westbury location. It is somewhat accessible to public transportation! You can either take the LIRR to Carle Place (rare) and walk, or take the LIRR to Mineola and take the N24 bus down Old Country Road to reach Dave & Busters at the Source Mall!

This is a casual meetup. You can come late, leave early, do your own thing and play whatever games you want! Presents not required. Cake is limited! lol

WHEN: Saturday, April 18th

TIME: 2:30PM – 5:00PM

WHERE: Dave & Busters Westbury (1504 Old Country Road
Westbury, NY 11590)

RSVP: https://www.facebook.com/events/416797158499053/

What You Missed: SPLI Amiibo Only Tournament (March)

Last night, SPLI hosted our latest Amiibo Only Tournament at Game Hut in Babylon, NY.  There were many upsets, and Weegee didn’t make it to the finals! (Phew!) However, we did see Sean S. take home the top prize once again with his Mario Amiibo “SMPS”!

Next month we will be changing the format for the Amiibo Only Tournament, in an effort to switch things up and give others a chance to win. Stay tuned for more info! Until then, take a look at some photos from our March Tournament.

What You Missed: SPLI Pokemon League E4 Challenge

SPLI’s latest event was on 3/15/15 – the SPLI Pokemon League Elite Four Challenge! Hosted at Game Hut in Babylon, Pokemon trainers came to compete with the SPLI Pokemon League Gym Leaders and try to earn the chance to face the Elite Four! Our Gym Leaders proved to be tougher than expected, with only one strong trainer making it all the way to challenge the E4! We hope for even tougher competition for the next League event, so keep EV training…

Gym Leader Spotlight: Elite Four – Fire Type!

StreetPass Long Island is proud to share the next of our Gym Leader Spotlights for the SPLI Pokémon League! If you don’t know about the SPLI Pokémon League, then you should definitely click the links for the league’s main page, which explains how the league works! You can challenge any Gym Leader by selecting their Gym from the League dropdown menu and submitting a challenge using the form on the Gym page. If you’d like to apply to be a Gym Leader, please send us an email and we might put you on the waiting list for next season!

In anticipation of the upcoming SPLI Pokémon League Elite Four Challenge on Sunday, March 15th, we wanted to introduce to you one of our Elite Four Gym Leaders!

Elite Four: Fire Gym Spotlight

Gym Leader: Wes

Battle Format: Singles – Normal Rules, Items Clause

Accepting Challenges: Sunday, March 15th from 5pm-8pm at the SPLI Pokémon League Elite Four Challenge at GameHut in Babylon, NY

Gym Leader Interview

SPLI: The big Elite Four Challenge event is coming up shortly! Are you ready to face the challengers? One question we always ask Gym Leaders is about their rules and format. What made you decide on the Fire Gym’s format?

Anthony: It was the most familiar Battle Style I can choose. [That is why] I chose Normal Singles.

SPLI: It can definitely be a good thing to stick with what you know! What about your favorite Pokémon on your team? Would you like to share that with us?

Anthony:  I would say Magmortar. I love its design and I think it’s surprisingly good movepool gives it an edge over most of the other Fire Pokemon with moves like Thunderbolt and Psychic. It also appeals to me because not many people seem to like the Pokemon, so it kind of appeals to me, but I think it might actually be out of pity. Regardless, it’s still amazing.

SPLI: Lots of people want to know hints and tips to help them beat your team. Do you want to share your secrets??

Rick: Not really, given I am an Elite Four, people can just look at my type and anticipate what I would likely use.

SPLI: It seems like you’ve got a lot of experience when it comes to battling! Do you participate in PVGC and other competitions?

Anthony: 8 Years ago, I won the Pokemon National Qualifier Tournament. This important for me because I really proved to myself that I accomplished being a real life Pokemon Master. [Also, I am always looking for new friends to play videogames with.] I want to be able to play co-op with people. If anyone would be interested email me at voltcatfish@gmail.com.

SPLI: Wow, you are definitely going to be tough to beat! What do you think, SPLI? Do you have what it takes to win? Come to the SPLI Pokémon League Elite Four Challenge on 3/15 and battle your way to the top!

If you would like to challenge Wes and the Fire Gym, you must first have beaten 8 regular Gym Leaders from the SPLI Pokemon League either via WIFI or at our SPLI Pokémon League Elite Four Challenge! Once you have 8 wins against the SPLI Gym Leaders, then all you have to do is wait for the event on 3/15! You can also battle a sample of the E4 Fire Gym by scanning his Secret Base QR code below!

E4 Challenge – What You Need to Know

The SPLI Pokemon League Elite Four Challenge is almost upon us! We’ve been sharing little tips about the E4 (the fourth Gym’s spotlight article is coming this weekend!) and we know that everyone is really excited to battle! But as this is not a tournament, there may be some confusion as to how this event is going to work! We wanted to give you guys an overview on what to expect at our event on Sunday, 3/15 at GameHut in Babylon, NY.

  • This is not a formal organized tournament. This is a low-key event, you are not penalized if you can’t stay for the entirety or if you show up late. No stress!
  • We are trying to emulate the Pokemon League in real life. So naturally, all challengers will need 8 Gym Badges before they can challenge the Elite Four.
  • Regular Gym Leaders will be on hand to accept challenges at the event. They will be wearing name tags and they will be keeping record! All challengers must successfully BEAT 8 Regular Gym Leaders in order to earn the right to face the Elite Four.
  • When facing the Regular Gym Leaders, challengers are allowed to change their Pokemon teams. Just like in the videogame! Keep type match-ups in mind and choose the best Pokemon to beat the Gym you are challenging.
  • The Elite Four consists of 3 Singles Gyms and 1 Doubles Gym. Just like in the game, all challengers must earn 4 CONSECUTIVE WINS AGAINST THE ELITE FOUR to be named a Pokemon League Champion.
  • All challengers MUST use the SAME TEAM when facing the Elite Four. Since there are 3 Singles Gyms and 1 Doubles, we will allow you to change your team once, ONLY when facing the Doubles Gym (Ghost). Changing moveset w/TM’s between Gym battles is ALLOWED. Again, just like in the videogame!
  • The first ten participants to successfully earn 8 Gym Badges and earn the right to challenge the Elite Four will get a small prize! (One per challenger, while supplies last.)

Got any questions about the event or the rules? Please contact us on the Event Page or send us an email at info@spli.org! See you on Sunday, and good luck!
