SPLI “Tiki Cup” Go-Kart Race!

StreetPass Long Island is hosting the first ever “Tiki Cup” Go-Kart Race at Tiki Action Park to celebrate the launch of Mario Kart 8 for Wii U! Race in real go-karts and compete to be the best Go-Kart racer in SPLI! Dress in cosplay and help us recreate a REAL Mario Kart race… without the blue shells of course!

Tiki Action Park offers a discounted rate for groups, so join us for a Grand Prix of go-kart races. Each race is $4.25 (so $17 total for the Grand Prix), and you can also enjoy the other cool features of Tiki Action Park for a discount as well.

What You Missed: MK8 Test Drive Weekend!

If you missed the Mario Kart 8: Test Drive Weekend, which was held this past weekend (5/17 – 5/18) at participating GameStop locations, then you are probably regretting it now! StreetPass Long Island members were treated to hours of demo gameplay of the newest installment of the Mario Kart series in Levittown and North Babylon, as well as fun photo ops and cosplaying!

NoA’s Long Island rep Derek was on hand all weekend to get us all hyped up for the new game! He answered all of our questions about the game, staged a photo-op area complete with a [small scale] replica Mario Kart and backdrop, and he had multiple controller setups available so that we could enjoy some multi-player racing!

Here are some photos from the event to give you a taste of all of the fun we had! Big thanks to everyone who came out this past weekend. We can’t wait until May 30th! SPLI is eager to host lots of online MK8 tournaments when June rolls in, so stay tuned!

What You Missed: Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament!

On Friday, 5/9/14, SPLI members were treated to a really fun event – the Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament! The event kicked off earlier in the week, when SPLI issued a challenge to members via an online Mario Golf Private Tournament, dubbed the “SPLI May Tourney.” SPLI staff announced that the winner of the online private tournament would have a chance to win a free t-shirt!

The lucky winner of the SPLI May Tourney was Chris C! His impressive score of -14 was posted on the group page, and Chris was reminded that by winning the online tournament, he was entitled to a free t-shirt if he attended the Mario Golf Mini Golf meetup. Of course he came to claim his prize!

SPLI members split up into groups of 4 to play the Mini Golf Mountain course at Heartland Golf Park in Edgewood, NY. The competition was tight, with most players putting at par or better! The weather held out and we were able to golf through all 18 holes.

The winners of the Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament were Chris C. (3rd place), Johnathan L. (2nd place) and Dan D. (1st place). Congratulations to all of the winners!

Editor’s Note – this makes Chris the winner of the online golf tournament AND a medalist in real life mini golf. Way to go, Chris!! Readers might remember that Dan was also the winner of our Pokemon X&Y Tournament back in February, making Dan the SPLI Pokemon and Mini Golf Champion! We plan to post a new Hall of Fame page here on the SPLI website to celebrate these winners and all future winners of SPLI competitions, so check back soon for that!

Another important detail to mention about the Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament is that this was SPLI’s first meetup to include an Official Nintendo Representative! The NoA Long Island Rep, Derek, came to cheer us on and he took this awesome group photo for us! Everyone was so excited when Derek started handing out all kinds of cool Nintendo giveaways, and we learned more details about awesome Nintendo demo events that are coming up soon! Thanks for joining us Derek!

To keep up with the golfing spirit, a new private online tournament challenge is now issued to all SPLI members! The next private tournament is a SPEED challenge of 9 holes. Don’t let all of the coins and powerups distract you, but get the best score you can! This tournament ends at 8:30pm on 5/25/14. Good luck!

Mario Kart 8 Demo Days on LI

Great news for all of you Mario Kart fans! If you are impatiently awaiting the May 30th release of the latest Mario Kart 8 game for Nintendo Wii U, here’s some good news! There are going to be 2 local MK8 Demo Events at GameStop store locations on Long Island!

May 17 – GameStop in Levittown

May 18 – GameStop in North Babylon

If you want to be the first of your friends to try out Mario Kart 8, you won’t want to miss this event! There’s an event for each county on Long Island to make it more convenient for YOU!

Mario Golf Mini Golf Tournament

Join StreetPass Long Island in celebrating the new Nintendo 3DS game Mario Golf: World Tour by grabbing a putter and showing off your skills at Heartland Golf Park in Edgewood, NY! We are going to compete for the best score on Mini Golf Mountain, which is a gorgeous course and pretty challenging! Of course we will be playing Mario Golf in between holes too! PAX Panel: Pokemon X&Y Competitive Trainer Seminar!

Here’s a special treat for all of you attending PAX East 2014 at the Boston Convention and Expo Center: StreetPass Long Island, StreetPass NYC and The Pocket Players are hosting a Pokemon panel! It’s called the “Pokemon X&Y: Competitive Trainer Seminar” and our goal is to help you improve your battle skills. We are going to discuss the different strategies to breed, train and battle using all of the new features that Pokemon X&Y have to offer.

The panel will be located at the Badger Theater at PAX East 2014 on Saturday, April 12th from 1-2pm. This panel is located within the convention and attendees are required to have an official PAX East badge in order to attend. Please arrive early as space is limited!

Nintendo 3DS is 3 Years Old!

February 26, 2014 was the third birthday of the Nintendo 3DS! To celebrate, we’d like to share a blog entry from SPLI Twitter Manager Lance’s blog “Royal Lance Gaming.” He was the third person in the whole country to buy a 3DS system back in 2011!

This weekend I was at my first midnight at Best Buy Union Square for the Nintendo 3DS. Not only did I get to buy a 3DS, I was the third official buyer for that system in America right before Triforce and EMP Kreumore. And the best part was I got to chill (literally) with two Smash-playing philanthropists, a coat wearing Samus, some guy wearing a bunch of Nintendo stuff, and Kreymore.

The launch and the week that led to it was quite an experience especially the night when it snowed like crazy. I met interesting new people who faced the cold for the innovative portable. I met a mom who got in line with a pair a crutches to she could get the 3DS for her daughter. Then we have a guy who came from Jersey carrying NOTHING. (He did grab stuff throughout the day.)

The launch party was quite big. Not only did it cover Best Buy, but it took over some of the park across the street. Street team was there to demo the 3DS games but I already had my mind made up about what I wanted to get. But I did enjoy making a Mii from a photo of me. That was a neat trick. It was also nice to see staff bring in some free food and music.

In the closing minutes Reggie Fils-Aime stepped out to address the crowd. Asking the crowd to throw away the 3D glasses was a nice touch. I couldn’t help but to put then on for a bit.

After a 36 hour wait (yes, I waited that long) I was finally able to follow Triforce and Kreymore into the store. When I got off the escalator the 3DS’s were all lined up on a counter instead of locked up the back room. I picked up an Aqua 3DS with two games. Third place doesn’t get as much media attention as first but it still means a lot to me personally.

Pokemon X&Y Event: 2/23

Do you want to be the very best, like no one ever was?? Then come prove your Pokemon prowess at StreetPass Long Island’s Pokemon X&Y Event at Empire Gaming in Farmingdale, NY. The event will start at 12pm on Sunday, 2/23! RSVP on Facebook now!

Pokemon X&Y Tournament: Prepare yourself for the upcoming official PVGC tournaments by battling your fellow SPLI members! We will be using the official tournament rules set forth by The Pokemon Company: Doubles Standard Format. Please remember that all Pokemon entered in this tournament must be Kalos Native (meaning it must be a Pokemon that was hatched or caught in the Kalos region. You can tell if your Pokemon is Kalos Native if there is a blue pentagon on their Pokemon details screen.) but they can be from the National Pokedex. The winner of the tournament will win a shiny competitive-ready (perfect IV’s, ability, nature, etc.) in-game Pokemon and a perler bead Pokemon prize! As usual, the final round will be broadcast on our big display monitor for everyone to see!

Pokemon X&Y PR Video Contest: Have you created the coolest Pokemon X&Y PR Video for your trainer character? We will be hosting a PR Video Contest and whoever has the best video will win a great prize! Show off your style, video editing, favorite Pokemon, or whatever you want! All videos will be broadcast on our big screen display monitor for all attendees to see, and we will vote by applause to determine the winner.
Pokemon Rumble U Freeplay: Throughout the event, we will be hosting Pokemon Rumble U on the Wii U for SPLI members to play. Bring down your Pokemon NFC figures to trade with other members too! StreetPass Long Island even has some NFC’s to give away during the event, so you won’t want to miss it!
Pokedex 3D Pro Quizzes: For those who want to show off their Pokemon knowledge, we will switch back and forth from Rumble U to Pokedex 3D Pro, and offer prizes for the winners! We have some great prizes thanks to donations from SPLI members.
Pokemon TCG fans are welcome to bring their decks and battle each other! Note: Since SPLI is exclusively a Nintendo video-game based group, we aren’t hosting an official TCG tournament, but Empire Gaming manager Joe has all of the info for upcoming TCG League games! You can also pick up new X&Y TCG packs at Empire Gaming!
